There is a long term tradition of youth orchestras associated with the organisation. In 1970 the most prestigious orchestra associated with the organisation, the World Youth Orchestra (Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra) was founded. Many top conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Kent Nagano etc have worked with the orchestra. The orchestra has performed in many famous concert halls such as the Philharmonie in Berlin. The orchestra has participated in ceremonial parts of Olympic games and the last time it had such a role was in 1993 in Norway. The orchestra has also performed on the occasion of anniversaries of historical events such as the 50th anniversary of the state of Israel.
At the beginning of the new millennium the World Orchestra has renewed its conception placing more emphasis on contemporary classical music as well as on the interaction between symphonic works with ethno, jazz and contemporary pop music.
